Sports Bettors - You Better Shop Around

If you're just starting off in online sports betting, one of the best lessons you can learn is that you want to have multiple outlets where you can bet.

Sure, you might find a very good and reputable sportsbook, but you also want to be able to "shop around" for the best odds you can possibly get, and that will involve opening up more than one account. This is easier when you are playing online than when you are playing with the private bookmakers in your area, obviously, because you have more choices at your fingertips.

What you're trying to do is to shop for lines that are going to be more advantageous to you. Let's illustrate this by way of an example. Let's say that you are going to bet on a basketball game. Team A is favored by 3.5 points at one sportsbook. You like the "underdog," which means you are interested in taking the points. But could there be places where you can get even MORE points? Well, if you are registered only at one sportsbook, you won't even know, and if you knew, you wouldn't be able to take advantage of it.

But if you had multiple accounts, you might be able to get four points somewhere else. That doesn't seem like a lot, but every little bit helps. And those small differences can add up to something appreciable at the end of a calendar year.

Some of this comes from the fact that different sportsbooks want to attract people with better lines, but usually it has more to do with the fact that the action that they are taking at their own establishment is going to dictate which way the line moves. So you can get a better line at one place than you can at another.

A little something extra that comes your way gives you more value in what you are doing. And having more choices can make you more successful in online sports betting.
